Myopia Management for Children & Teens on the Main Line
Proactive, evidence-based care to slow the progression of nearsightedness — because early intervention changes outcomes.
What Is Myopia — and Why Does It Matter?
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is a condition where distant objects appear blurry while close objects are clear. It develops when the eye grows slightly too long, causing light to focus in front of the retina instead of on it.
It's one of the fastest-growing vision conditions in the world — and it typically begins in childhood, progressing through the teenage years as children grow.
Left unmanaged, myopia can increase significantly year after year. High myopia is associated with a greater risk of serious eye conditions later in life, including retinal detachment, glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.

Beyond Glasses: What Myopia Management Actually Does
Standard glasses and contact lenses correct how you see — but they don't address what's causing myopia to get worse.
Myopia management is different. These are evidence-based clinical strategies specifically designed to slow the rate at which a child's prescription increases year over year.
The goal isn't to cure myopia. The goal is to reduce how severe it becomes — so your child reaches adulthood with the least amount of nearsightedness possible, protecting their long-term eye health.
Specialty Contact Lenses
Multifocal or peripheral defocus contact lenses that help slow eye growth during the day.
Great for active kids and teens
Stellest Lenses
Stellest spectacle lenses use thousands of tiny lenslets (H.A.L.T. technology) to slow myopia progression — worn just like everyday glasses, all day long.
Easy for kids — worn like regular glasses

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)
Specially shaped overnight contact lenses that temporarily reshape the cornea so no daytime correction is needed.
Freedom from daytime glasses or contacts
I grew up in a family where myopia shaped daily life from a very early age. I, my mother, and my sister all live with advanced myopia — and some of my earliest memories are going to the eye doctor as a child. That experience didn't just lead me to optometry. It gave me a deep, personal understanding of what myopia does to a family's life. That's why myopia management isn't just a service I offer. It's something I genuinely believe in.

Signs Your Child May Need Myopia Management
- Their glasses or contact prescription has increased at their last 2+ eye exams
- One or both parents are significantly nearsighted
- Your child is under 16 (progression is fastest during growth years)
- They spend significant time on screens or doing close-up work
- They squint at the board, TV, or distant objects
If any of these apply to your child, a myopia management consultation is the right next step. Early intervention typically leads to significantly better outcomes.
